Review:
When Semus goes completely nuts in second year and burns all of Harry's most prized possessions (because Harry's a Parselmouth), it competely changes the course of Harry's destiny. He's still friends with Ron and Hermione, but Snape sees an opportunity to twist Harry to his will and Draco finds that his obsession can take many different forms.

Re-reading my summary, I have to admit that it makes Inter Vivos sound rather darker than it actually is. Don't get me wrong, this fic is quite dark in places (at least by my standards), but the worst that can be said for Snape's relationship with Harry is that he's a dick (gasp!) and it takes a looong time for him to get over himself and his prejudices. And Draco's obsession basically consists of him deciding if Harry won't cooperate by being Draco's rival, well then Harry is just going to have to be Draco's friend (so there).

(Um, I might have been just the slightest bit over-tired when I wrote this rec.)

In a slightly more serious tone, I love the fact that this fic addresses Harry's abuse (especially that *Harry* addresses his abuse, even if it does take an enormous shove to get him going). I love that, despite squabbles, Harry remains best friends with Ron and Hermione. I love the fact that it takes ages for Snape to figure out his own feelings for Harry (though, admittedly, his eventual affection for Harry does seem a bit sudden). I love that Draco is clearly young for much of this fic, but at no point is he ever bratty. I love that Severus and Sirius may play nice in front of Harry, but never really get along (itching powder might've been mentioned). I love that much of the morality of the story is done in shades of gray. I love the hurt/comfort, which includes quite a bit of hurt and even more comfort. And, most of all, I love the fact that all of the characters make mistakes at some point in time or other and no one is perfect.

In the end, Inter Vivos is a long, satisfying fic for folks who like Harry/Draco, Snape-as-Harry's-mentor, and a strong friendship between Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

Have you ever tried DownloadStory? It's Mac-specific, and works with a number of different fic archives, including FF.net.

I just tried it on this story, and aside from one glitch in the HTML coding (which caused all the paragraphs to be center-aligned, but was very easy to fix), it worked like a charm.

I'm not the OP, but I wanted to say that this is very cool -- I'm definitely adding it to the sidebar:)

Oh, cool -- I hope others find it useful!

I e-mailed the author of the program about the bug I found, and he seemed very receptive and interested in fixing it. So hopefully it won't be a problem much longer.

An H/D fic I've missed completely. Will definitely be taking a look at this (when I have lots and lots of time). Thanks! :)

I actually have more H/D fic in my to-read folder than I do HP/SS fic (!) so expect lots more H/D recs to come:)

I love this story! Great rec! I'd even go so far and rec anything lomonaaeren has written. She's extremely prolific, comes up with completely new plots, twists and characterisations and somehow manages to keep a very high quality every time. I highly recommend "Changing of the Guard" (on her LJ). That's an epic with lots of hurt/comfort, steamy scenes and a really unique take on the wizarding world

Oh my god. I just finished this and YES YES YES, this is why I read fanfic. I loved so, so many things about it, but I just want to say that even though it was an awesome H/D fic, I love love that it ended with a Harry & Snape scene. I love that hardly anyone was villainised, unlike most H/D fics. I love H/D, mentor!Snape/Harry and trio friendship, and to have them all together in an epic, excellent, believable fic makes for one of my favourite fics ever.

This fic was actually already on my reading list, but that's so long there was no telling when I'd get around to it, so when it was recced here I moved it up. I've read a couple of the older fics by this author, but I like this one way, way more - I might give the newer ones a try.

Anyway tl;dr comment is over, keep up the good recs!
