RR -- Small Fandoms

Even though we already have a couple of small fandom RR posts, they're several months old and I'm hoping a fresh one will spark new recs.   Remember, any fandom (no matter how large it is in the world at large) is counted as small at ER if there are fewer than five recs posted for that fandom in this comm.  This means, for example, Star Wars, individual Star Trek franchises, The X-Files, and Supernatural all count as small fandoms while Jeeves & Wooster and Sports Night do not.  Check out our tags page or our delicious account to see which fandoms are eligible.  (When in doubt, feel free to rec -- we won't complain.)

Personally, I'm really looking forward to a bunch of reasons why Star Wars and Star Trek TOS should be getting more recs.  And if anyone has some 'Sam and Dean really aren't brothers and thus them getting together isn't really incest at all' recs, I will love you forever:)

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to). All that you need to include are title, author, and link to the story (all parts if there are more than one).

That said, have at it!

just the tip of the top of my Merlin faves
Title: August
Author: Pru (rageprufrock)
Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Summary: Arthur returns to Ealdor with Merlin to celebrate Hunith's birthday.
Link: August

Review: I am a complete sucker for motherless Arthur's relationship with his mother-in-law Hunith. He's so sweetly intentioned to do nice things for her just because she's Merlin's mother (and loves him), but he's so clueless about village life. Also? He and Merlin are so married.

Title: Polishing Buttons
Author: skellerbvvt
Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Summary: "Polishing buttons doesn’t mean what you think it means, unless it does, then it does, with bells on."
Link: Polishing Buttons

Review: Merlin is spectacularly clueless in this, while Arthur tries unsuccessfully to woo him--cleverly told through Merlin's naive POV. A hilariously adorable romance. As a bonus? Unlike in canon, medieval characters are actually medieval--marking time by candles, distrusting baths, etc.

Title: Misrule
Author: The Hoyden (thehoyden)
Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Summary: "Arthur's countenance turned gleeful and he shouted to the hall, 'Merlin's the Maiden!'"
Link: Misrule

Review: During the Feast of Fools, Merlin discovers to his dismay that he's the "prettiest" Maiden they've had in years, which leads to a surprising amount of glee from the girls dressing him up, a very disturbing smile from Uther, and more attention from Arthur than he's ever given Maidens in past years. (Oh, really, it's just a delightful excuse to get Merlin in a dress. And Arthur's bed. :-)

Title: Lord Drake's Bequest
Author: pennyplainknits
Fandom: Merlin AU
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Summary: "To my great-nephew Arthur I bequeath Tintagel Distribution, wholly and without reserve, save for one condition. You must marry, and stay married, for a period of no less than six months."
Link: Lord Drake's Bequest

Review: This is a classic Harlequin, have-to-get-married plot, with the best friend who agrees to "help out." Of course everyone else figures out it's real before they do. Yum!

Title: The Kingdom of the Blaggers
Author: Zahra (hackthis)
Fandom: Merlin AU, crossover with Entourage and a little RPS
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur, Morgana/Gwen
Summary: Arthur moves to Hollywood to become a star in his own right, out from under his father's shadow. Merlin follows.
Link: The Kingdom of the Blaggers (2 more pages linked from first)

Review: There are so many other modern-day Merlin AUs I'm madly in love with, but most are WIPs. Here's one that's delightfully complete. Arthur's competitive relationship with his father, sibling rivalry with Morgana, and snarky banter with Merlin are all intact in modern California. Add in a fabulous Ari Gold as his new agent and some movies in the plot that I wish weren't fictional, and I'm a happy, happy camper.

I'm sure you've read them all already. Except possibly the Harlequin, but I know how much you love that. :-)

Re: just the tip of the top of my Merlin faves
I haven't ever actually watched Entourage, though I've read a fair amount of the fic. Mainly it's about an up-and-coming star in Hollywood and his best friend--and his foul-mouthed, un-PC, amazing agent, Ari Gold (Emmy-winning performance by Jeremy Piven), and Ari's gay, Asian-American assistant Lloyd. Zahra has written a whole sub-universe of Ari Gold fics already for the Entourage fandom where he also represents George Clooney, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., etc., so when she AUed Arthur and Merlin to Hollywood, well, who else would they meet up with? :D
