Author's Summaries:
(Doctor Who Summary) He hadn't really counted on getting into a pub brawl over the color of his coat on some speck of a planet, or signing up with a crew of petty criminals. Still, he'd always wondered what really happened to those Lost Colonists from Earth...
(Firefly Summary) Hired to steal a supposed alien from one of Paquin's top ringmasters, Mal Reynolds figures things are gonna go even less smooth than usual. Then a passenger calling himself 'the Doctor' shows up, and things go all manner of crazy...

The great thing about Doctor Who is the potential to make even the most ridiculous of premises plausible. The tricky thing is to get the Doctor in all his quirky alien glory in character. Add in Firefly and the difficulty of writing a good River, and it becomes quite a challenge to keep the ensemble in character, but Frostfyre7 manages beautifully. The Doctor is in turn brilliant, flippant, haunted, and scary in the Oncoming Storm way, switching easily back and forth as he does in the series. The cast of Firefly is also handled beautifully. River is just the right amount of enigmatic and damaged - her dialogue never comes off as too stilted or too bizarre, nor is she miraculously recovering after the events of Miranda. The rest of the characterizations ring true as well - all good guys you want to root for but still very human in their interactions and motivations. There is also a Mal/Inara subplot that, while it never overwhelms the action, does provide a nice resolution to the UST of the show. Overall, a fantastic fic that juggles a number of complex characters and an intriguing action plot as well.
