Summary: "I have loved every moment of the time I’ve spent with you here. And I wouldn’t trade it for the universe. But sometimes, Sweetie, on those mornings when you wake up crying in my arms because of the nightmares, I can hardly bear it. Because I think of all those mornings you must’ve woken up like that alone.” River confesses, voice wavering. “And when you told me about Trenzalore…I just couldn’t bear the thought of you having to go through that for so long. It broke my heart. So I decided to do something about it.”

Review: This fic was written following the Christmas special "The Husbands of River Song" that wrapped up River's arc and was sadly the only, but very memorably time that River Song interacted with the Twelfth Doctor. The fic starts where the episode ended.

The author uses the romance and the sad knowledge that the this will be their last time together to craft a wonderful picture of the relationship that River shared with the Doctor, with Eleven especially, but also with Twelve who she is with. As a very nice touch she gets to visit Trenzalore where "her" Doctor made his last stand and stayed for a long, long time fighting. It's very touching, because it mirrors their dilemmas so very well, always meeting out of sequence, avoiding spoilers because knowing where River will meet her end is their tragedy.

The love between Elven and River is very sweet and her relationship with Twelve is different, but not without that love. It's all complicated and just wonderful of the complexity of the emotions that are conveyed. One of the AO3 tags on the story calls it a "sort of a love letter to the Doctor and River" and that really perfectly sums up the story.
