When Pete is recruited by British military intelligence to infiltrate a particularly dangerous IRA splinter group, MacGyver comes along to provide backup. A day later, Pete's cover is blown, the military's only other informant has disappeared, and a lethal riot is brewing. It's up to Mac to step in and try to salvage the situation before the streets of Belfast run red with blood.
Wow. This fic is *amazing*. Not only are Mac and Pete perfectly in character (right down to Mac's tendency to fix every technical and mechanical problem in sight), but the writing is as good as (if not better) than you usually find in published works, and the plot layered and captivating. Frankly, I don't think I've ever read a piece of fanfic so tightly written -- there is not a single misstep in characterization, writing, or plotting.
As great as all of those aspects of the fic are, however, they pale in comparison to the author's brilliant rendering of Ireland. Either MacBedh is Irish or she has done a phenomenal amount of research (or both), because the historical details of the Troubles (the time when the IRA and the British government were duking it out; this particular story is set in 1985) and of Ireland itself are remarkably authentic. Reading this fic, I could picture myself actually in Ireland (and now have an overwhelming urge to go visit there).
If you are a fan of action stories or if you have any interest in Ireland, then you should definitely check this fic out. Easily the best MacGyver fic I've ever read.
