Weight and Motion by sevenfists (NC-17)

Bonus Rec!

Weight and Motion
Fandom: Firefly, Supernatural
Pairing: Mal/Dean, side Kaylee/Simon
Categories: action/adventure, crossover, hurt/comfort, time-travel
Length: Long (~25,000)
Warnings: violence, somewhat unhappy ending

Author on LJ: sevenfists
Author Website: master fic list

When Dean suddenly appears on Serenity, Mal doesn’t know what to do with him. Dean, on the other hand, knows his only chance of getting back where he belongs is staying where he landed. And River, of course, knows everything.

This fic is quite intriguing. The idea of a cross-over always makes me really excited, and this idea is not overworked in the fic. Dean very simply passes through a portal. The voices in this are quite good. Everyone’s reactions to Dean are just about what you would expect them to be. All in all, this is a good solid fic.

There are also a few sequels that are good, but they’re not quite my cup of tea. I’ve provided links, in case you want to check them out.

Weight and Motion
Wild and Unwise
Core and Rind
Line and Wire

could you elaborate on the somewhat unhappy ending and why the sequels are not your cup of tea? thanks!

Uh, sorry. First off, the less than happy ending. It's Dean living in a world without Sam. It's Dean living in a world with no hope of Sam and no hope of wanting Sam to be there, not really, no matter how much a small little part of him will always want Sam there.

The sequels deal with a bit more of the angsty side of things (as I remember...not that well, admittedly). Also, they're a bunch of timestamps. Neither one of those is my cup of tea.

I don't remember there being any character death or anything else trigger-worthy in this, but it still leaves you feeling quite depressed. Dean/Mal could go one of two ways, slapstick silly or angsty angst with a side of angst. This is not the silly version.

cool icon :)))
ooooh, thank you for the detailed explanation. i'm not quite in the mood for that right now, so i appreciate you warning me.

i'll save the links in my "depressing" folder, for when i'm feeling like reading something angsty.
